This is August 31, 2006. On July 22, 2006 our house burned. Thankfully no one was hurt, and we didn't loose our belongings. The house however is unihabitable. So we are getting a new one. Come to find out on the Monday after the fire, which happened on Saturday, we had to file for a waiver to replace our house with another manufactured home. This waiver cost us $150, so that the city could mail out letters to all our neighbors with in 200' of our property. Talk about a money grab. Then come to find out we had to wait a month before we could even find out if our waiver was approved.
We got our approval from the city 10 days ago. We had already looked around and found the house we wanted and would fit on our lot. I believe having the dimension of the house and the lot right in front of them helped the council to approve our waiver. They asked my husband and I if we would build a home on the property if we were turned down. He answered honestly and told them we didn't have the finances to do that. The lot if very narrow, and long. With the house we are getting we will only have 5' on either side to the property line. There is suppose to be 8' on either side and 15' front and back. Since the house is bigger than what the easements require they waived the easements as well. The house we are replacing was a 14' X 66' manufactured home. So it is sitting long ways on the lot. This arrangement gave us no privacy from the street. With the new house we will have a defined front and back yard and the nosey, busy, bodys of Clyde will not beable to see everything on our property. The Mayor commented on the fact that we have had some complaints on the neatness of our property, and that with this new house hopefully we can have things out of sight out of mind. Which to me acknowledged the fact that we didn't have any place to put things that was not with in sight of the street.
Now we are just waiting on the title search to be done, which could take anywhere from two days to two weeks. After it is done though it won't take long to have the new house moved on. We have to have the lot surveyed and that takes all of about 3 hours. Hopefully we will be in our new home by the middle of October. We have to pay the city another $50 for the permit to have the house moved on to the property. That is still a money grab but a more legitimate one.
It has all worked out so far. Let us all pray it contiues to work out.
